GERALD WALLACE TENNIS CENTER, MOBILE, Ala. - The 20th-ranked team in the nation came away with a big win on Thursday afternoon, Mar. 23 as the University of Mobile Women's Tennis team knocked off No. 11 Loyola University (La.), 6-1. Mobile is coming off a tough loss to No. 3 LSU-Alexandria last time out, but bounced back in a big way on Thursday with a convincing win over the Wolf Pack at home. With the win, the Rams improved the overall record on the season to 4-1, while opening conference play in the SSAC at 1-0.

To start off the afternoon action, both teams traded points across the top two flights in doubles play, with Mobile's top doubles pair of Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo and Eva Garcia earning a 6-2 win to open the match. Loyola bounced back in the second flight with a 6-3 victory, but Mobile's third-seeded team of Sofija Hrovat and Berta Castello earned the Rams the doubles point with a 6-1 win from the third flight. Up 1-0, Mobile looked to build in singles action.
In singles play, Mobile earned five singles wins, dropping just the lone point in the fifth-seeded singles match. Mobile's top seed of Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo highlighted the singles matches for the Rams by claiming a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 comeback victory over the reigning SSAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year, Lucy Carpenter. Later, Mobile's third flight of Narjis Mzibri eventually scored the match-clinching point to give the Rams the impressive 6-1 match win over Loyola.
