KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Wednesday, Mar. 29 that Latavia Jack of the University of Mobile Women's Outdoor Track & Field program has been named the NAIA National Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. The award is based on performance for the week of Mar. 20-26.
Sophomore Latavia Jack found great success in Mississippi State Bulldog Relays this past weekend, hitting the NAIA "A" qualifying mark in three separate events to qualify her for the 2023 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Marian, Ind. Her 100 meter time of 11.70 seconds currently leads the NAIA and broke the school record, while the 4x100 meter relay time of 46.53 with teammates Myla Edwards, Samantha Mansur, and Jerenie Jackson currently sits second in the NAIA. The 4x100 meter relay time also became a new school record. Additionally, Jack's time of 24.31 seconds in the 200 meters event is fourth-best overall in the NAIA, as the Lake Charles, La. native is set to compete in all three events at NAIA Nationals this year.
Latavia Jack is just the second member from the University of Mobile Women's Outdoor Track & Field to earn the NAIA National Track Athlete of the Week Award.
NAIA athletes of the week are evaluated on their performance during the week prior to the announcement. Each athlete is selected out of a pool of nominees from across the country.
