Sadiya Shamsid-Deen Earns First-Career Conference Athlete of the Week Honor

SSAC Names Shamsid-Deen as Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sadiya Shamsid-Deen of the University of Mobile Women's Outdoor Track and Field program was named SSAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday, May 2. The award is based on performance for the week of April 24-30.

One week after the 2023 SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, several members of head coach Andy Canegitta's outdoor track and field program at Mobile traveled to Clinton, Miss. for the Mississippi College Twilight over the weekend where freshman Sadiya Shamsid-Deen earned two national qualifying marks. She finished third overall in the women's 400 meters, breaking the school record, while placing first overall in the women's 4x400 meter relay event. Shamsid-Deen is one of four members of this year's national qualifiers to qualify for multiple events at the 2023 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
 
Sadiya Shamsid-Deen (Mobile – FR – Marietta, Ga.)
  • This is her first-career outdoor honor.
  • Shamsid-Deen hit a pair of NAIA "A" qualifying marks at the Mississippi College Twilight, in the 400m (56.45) and 4x400m (3:53.69).
  • She broke the school record in the 400m and turned in the third-best 4x400m mark in program history with teammates Yasmin Pines, Raven Pratt, and Shawnessy Edwards.
