MOBILE TENNIS CENTER, MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Tennis team played three conference matches over the course of Thursday through Saturday, Mar. 30 - Apr. 1, competing in the annual SSAC Women's Tennis Roundup at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. On Thursday, the 12th-ranked Rams had a tough draw to open the conference gathering of multiple SSAC teams, facing off with No. 7 Middle Georgia State and falling 4-3 for just Mobile's second loss of the season. The following day, Mobile bounced back and secured a 4-0 victory over Florida National University, and ended the conference tournament on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 shutout win over Blue Mountain Christian.
The Rams ended the tournament with a 2-1 record, improving to 7-2 overall on the season and 4-1 in SSAC action.
Thursday Notables - (12) Mobile 3, (7) Middle Georgia State 4
- Reigning SSAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo won in both singles and doubles action, securing a 6-1, 6-2 win from No. 1 singles and a 6-1 victory from No. 1 doubles with teammate Eva Garcia.
- Luana Wild and Narjis Mzibri earned Mobile the important doubles point with a 7-5 doubles win.
- Eva Garcia joined Reynaldo Toledo as the only two Rams to win in singles play, with Garcia finishing with a 6-3, 6-4 win from the fifth flight in the singles lineup.
- Middle Georgia State managed four wins in singles play to grab the one-point win over Mobile.
Friday Notables - (12) Mobile 4, Florida National 0
- Against Florida National, the Rams bounced back from Thursday's loss and won every match against the Conquistadors with the exception of one doubles match.
- Mobile's first and third flights in doubles play came away with wins, with Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo and Eva Garcia earning a 6-1 win from No. 1 doubles and Berta Castello and Sofija Hrovat finishing with a dominating 6-0 win from the third flight in doubles action.
- In singles play, Mobile scored victories from the first, fifth, and sixth flights to win the match. The two, three, and four-seeded matches did not finish.
- Reynaldo Toledo won 6-1, 6-0 from No. 1 singles, while Eva Garcia took home a 6-0, 7-5 win from the fifth flight and Karolina Mrowiecova scored a 6-2, 6-2 win from the sixth-seeded match.
- Garcia's win was the match-clincher for Mobile.
Saturday Notables - (12) Mobile 5, Blue Mountain 0
- On the final day of the SSAC Women's Tennis Roundup, the Rams earned another shutout win, defeating Blue Mountain Christian, 5-0.
- Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo and Eva Garcia once against won from the top spot in doubles play, defeating the Toppers' top doubles pair, 6-3.
- Sofija Hrovat and Berta Castello later earned the doubles point for the Rams, winning 6-0.
- Two of six matches went unfinished in the singles part of the match, with the top seed and fifth seed having no result.
- In the second and third-seeded singles matches, Berta Castello earned a 6-2, 6-1 win from No. 2 doubles, while Narjis Mzibri won, 6-3, 6-3.
- From the fourth flight, Sofija Hrovat won 6-2, 6-1, and was followed by Luana Wild from the No. 6 singles who grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
- Wild's point clinched the match for the Rams.
Three Home Matches Remain
Following the 2-1 week for No. 12 Mobile, the Rams are scheduled for three more matches on the regular season schedule, all coming at home. Mobile is scheduled to host conference rival William Carey next on the schedule, set for Wednesday, Apr. 5 at 1:00 p.m. CT at the Gerald Wallace Tennis Center.
