MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Mobile Softball program swept the SSAC Softball Pitcher/Player of the Week honors, with freshman Avery Harrell being named SSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week and sophomore Madilyn Sheffield being named SSAC Softball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday, May 1. The awards are based on performance for the week of April 24-30.
Harrell and Sheffield played an integral part in Mobile's 4-0 week last week to conclude the 2023 regular season and earn the top seed in the upcoming SSAC Softball Championship Tournament. In the pitcher's circle, true freshman Avery Harrell notched two complete game shutouts, while Madilyn Sheffield tallied five hits in six at-bats across two starts. The weekly conference honor is the first for both players.
Avery Harrell (Mobile – FR – RHP – Grove Hill, Ala.)
- This is her first-career honor.
- Harrell tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts, totaling 14 innings of five-hit ball with 13 strikeouts and no walks.
- She tossed a two-hit shutout, with nine K's in a 1-0 win over Faulkner and a three-hit shutout with four K's in a 3-0 win over No. 19 William Carey.
Madilyn Sheffield (Mobile – SO – C/3B – Saraland, Ala.)
- This is her first-career honor.
- In a pair of games, Sheffield hit .833 (5-for-6), while posting a .857 OBP.
- She went 2-for-3 with two RBIs v. Faulkner and 3-for-3 with one RBI in a 3-1 win over No. 19 William Carey.
