ALEXANDRIA, La. - On a very hot Saturday afternoon in Alexandria, La., the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team fell 3-2 to the Generals of LSU-A (La.) for the first loss of the 2023 season. Match Recap: Second Half Comeback Not Enough for Rams
With temperatures reaching north of 100 degrees across the southeast on Saturday, Aug. 26, Mobile and LSU-A squared off in an afternoon non-conference match that saw the Generals open up the scoring in the 12th minute. Mobile managed to answer shortly after, however, as newcomer Izzabella Payne tallied her second goal of the young season to tie the match at one goal a piece. For the majority of the first half, the match remained tied 1-1 until LSU-A pushed across a go-ahead goal one minute before halftime. The Generals took a 2-1 advantage to the break.
Coming out of halftime, LSU-A picked up where they left off in the first half and scored an early goal in the second. The Generals' third goal of the game came in the 58th minute and eventually proved to be the most important goal scored. Just five minutes later, Mobile freshman Andi Hughes netted her second collegiate goal to cut the deficit to just one. However, the LSU-A defense held the Rams to just two goals on Saturday as the Generals' goal early in the second half became the deciding factor in a 3-2 match.
In the shots category on the box score, the Rams managed a 16-15 shot advantage over LSU-A, while shooting 11 shots-on-goal. Meanwhile, LSU-A recorded eight shots-on-goal, with Mobile goalkeepers tallying five saves. LSU-A keeper Victoria Weber notched eight saves against the Rams' front.
Raegan Latiolais led Mobile with four shots taken on Saturday, while Bailey Bronner tallied three. Both Latiolais and Bronner saw three shots on target, but were saved by Weber. Izzabella Payne also tallied three shots in the loss, and Madison Hager managed two shots from off the bench in just 13 minutes of action.
