UM Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Conference Road Trip

Rams Tally One Win, One Loss Over the Weekend

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team returned to the road over the weekend, playing two conference matches beginning on Friday, Sept. 22 in Pulaski, Tenn. The Rams faced SSAC newcomer University of Tennessee Southern on Friday, coming away with a 3-0 sweep over the Firehawks. The following day in Blue Mountain, Miss., Mobile faced reigning SSAC Volleyball champs Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) and fell via the sweep to the Toppers.

After Mobile's 1-1 weekend, the Rams are now 10-5 overall this season and 3-2 in conference play.

Friday Match Recap: Mobile Sweeps the Firehawks

On Friday, the Rams cruised by UT-Southern with a 3-0 sweep, winning 25-17, 25-23, and 25-21 across the three sets played. Mobile only hit .177 as a team on Friday, finishing with 40 team kills and 17 attack errors. Meanwhile, the Firehawks were worse offensively, hitting just .133 with 17 attack errors on 120 attempts. Mobile's best set of the night came in the final set where the Rams hit north of .200, recording 13 kills to end the match.

Three players came away with a team-high seven kills each for Mobile, with Aleah Kennedy, Jordan Wood, and Corrina Porch-Maxey all leading the way. Both Kennedy and Wood hit above .300 in Friday's win, with Wood pacing Mobile with an impressive .389 hitting line. Kendel Lee Frazer and Layton Adams both finished right behind Mobile's three offensive leaders, recording six kills a piece. For Adams, the junior led the Rams with 17 assists and 17 defensive digs to add to her six kills. Twin sister Aspen Adams finished with 12 digs in the victory, while Lexi Gillette tallied 10.

Saturday Match Recap: Blue Mountain Stays Strong

Saturday's match went the other way for Mobile as the Rams suffered a sweep at the hands of the Blue Mountain Toppers. Blue Mountain cruised to a .276 hitting line with 45 kills against the Rams, while Mobile only hit .056 with 27 kills in the defeat. The Toppers earned 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 set wins.

Corrina Porch-Maxey and Layton Adams were responsible for 16 of Mobile's 27 kills, with both players notching eight kills each. Adams again led Mobile in the assists category with 13, while junior Tatum Beech finished with 12. On the defensive side, Beech recorded 11 digs, while Lexi Gillette led Mobile with 13. Jordan Wood finished the match with four blocks, giving her 12 total blocks in two matches on the week.

Back Home for Two

Following last weekend's two matches, Mobile is scheduled to host two conference matches this upcoming weekend, beginning on Friday, Sept. 29. The Rams will host Life University (Ga.) at 6:00 p.m. CT, while facing Point University (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played in H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.
