MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Coming off a tough 4-0 home loss last time out, the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team bounced back nicely on Thursday evening, Sept. 28 with a victory over Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) on the road in Mount Vernon, Ga. Mobile opened the scoring early in Thursday's match, but saw the Barons score a late first half goal to tie the match at halftime. However, the Rams relied on three second half scores to go on to win Thursday's meeting, 4-1.
The win advances Mobile's overall record to 6-3-2 this season and 3-1-1 in conference play.
Match Recap: Strong Second Half Propels Rams to Victory
Mobile hit the scoreboard in just the sixth minute of the match on Thursday evening, with Carla Saborido scoring her second goal of the season. Despite 12 total shots in the first half alone, Saborido's goal became the lone goal of the half for the Rams. Meanwhile, the Barons of Brewton-Parker managed to tie the match right before the break with a goal in the 43rd minute. Brewton-Parker only took three shots in the first, with the third shot tying the match, 1-1.
In the second half, Mobile quickly broke the tie with a goal coming just four minutes out of halftime. Sophie Roberts tallied her third goal of the season in the 49th minute following a pass from Bailey Bronner, who earned the assist. Up 2-1, Mobile's attack did not back down as the Rams pushed across an insurance goal in the 67th minute. First-year Ram Trinity Barden scored Mobile's third goal of the match, with Izzabella Payne being awarded the assist. Down 3-1, the pressure on Brewton-Parker began feeling heavier as each minute passed.
In the 82nd minute, Mobile scored another goal to put the match out of reach. Raegan Latiolais tallied her team leading sixth goal of the season to give the Rams a three-goal lead late. Carla Saborido was in on Latiolais' late goal, earning the assist. From there, the Barons had no answers and Mobile went on to win, 4-1.
Mobile dominated possession of the ball in Thursday's matchup, outshooting Brewton-Parker, 28-7. The Rams saw 13 shots on target, with just two Brewton-Parker shots being recorded on-goal. Latiolais led Mobile with six shots in the win, while Izzabella Payne tallied five shots. Both Olivia Quiroz and Sophie Roberts finished with three shots a piece. In net, starting goalkeeper Juliana Gomez finished with one save in the winning effort, bringing her total to 44 saves this season through 10 matches played.
Rams Staying in Georgia
Following the win on Thursday, Mobile is scheduled for a Saturday afternoon matchup against Middle Georgia State University at 12:00 p.m. CT in Cochran, Ga. Mobile v. Middle Georgia State on Sept. 30 is a conference matchup and is the first meeting between the two teams this year.
