Mobile, Middle Georgia State Work Draw on Saturday

Busy First Half Leads to Scoreless Second Half in 2-2 Saturday Afternoon Draw

COCHRAN, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team worked a 2-2 draw with Middle Georgia State University on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30, with the result being Mobile's third tie of the 2023 season. A late penalty kick for the Rams proved to be important as the successful PK avoided an upset loss to the Knights of Middle Georgia St.

The tie moves the Mobile's overall record to 6-3-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in conference play.

Match Recap: Rams Avoid Loss in Cochran

Middle Georgia State opened the scoring early in Saturday's matchup, scoring in just the fifth minute of the match. However, Mobile responded almost immediately as first-year Ram Victoria Moseley notched her second goal of the season in the eighth minute. For the next 27 minutes, the match remained tied at one goal a piece before the Knights pushed across a go-ahead goal on the Rams in the 35th minute.

With the first half winding down, a costly foul by the Knights inside the Mobile box awarded the Rams a penalty kick for a chance to tie the match right before halftime. Carla Saborido took Mobile's PK in the 44th minute and scored the equalizer, her third goal this season. The mistake on Middle Georgia St. eventually cost the Knights an upset victory as Saborido's goal was the final score of the entire match. Throughout the final 45 minutes of the second half, neither team hit the scoreboard despite a total of 16 shots between the two programs.

Overall, the Rams out-shot the Knights 18-13 on Saturday, with Raegan Latiolais leading all players with six shots. Half of Mobile's 18 shots were on target, with the Middle Georgia St. goalkeeper coming up with seven saves. For Mobile keeper Juliana Gomez, the senior tallied five saves in the draw.

Non-Conference Action Ahead

Mobile is slated to return to action at home on Saturday, Oct. 7 with a big non-conference matchup against Georgia Gwinnett College at the Jungle. Saturday's match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT on Saturday and is the first meeting since last September between the two teams. Mobile has tied Georgia Gwinnett in each of the last two matches played.
