MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team will be looking to make history in the next match on the 2023 schedule as the Rams matched an all-time program record on Thursday night, Sept. 28. Mobile, the 11th-ranked team in the NAIA, managed to tie the program record in consecutive shutouts without a loss in a 4-0 victory over Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) on Thursday, extending the current streak to six-straight matches without allowing an opponent goal. During that span, Mobile has recorded four wins and two draws, with the last opponent goal coming on Sept. 2. The feat this year currently ties the Rams with the 2011 team record of six-straight shutouts.
Mobile's overall record moves to 5-2-2 this season following Thursday's win, with the SSAC record improving to 4-0-1.
Match Recap: Rams Grab Sixth-Straight Clean Sheet
Mobile opened the scoring extremely early on Thursday night in Mount Vernon, Ga., hitting the scoreboard in just the second minute of the match. Darlinton Aboagye tallied Mobile's first goal early on Thursday, with the assist coming from Henrique Luro Mendes. Later in the first half, senior Zacharia Hasler put Mobile up two scores in the 35th minute. From there, the Rams took a 2-0 lead to halftime.
In the second half, early miscommunication on the Brewton-Parker back line hurt the Barons as the team recorded an own goal to give Mobile a 3-0 lead. Mobile's attack did not stop with a three-goal lead as Guillermo Pena Martinez put Mobile up 4-0 with his late goal in the 86th minute. The Rams went on to win the match, 4-0.
In the win, Mobile took a total of 12 shots, with nine being on-goal. Meanwhile, Brewton-Parker managed six shots in the losing effort, with Mobile starting goalkeeper Ty Turner coming up with one save. Turner, the reigning two-time SSAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, has started each of Mobile's six matches during the current consecutive shutout streak, recording 15 saves in the process.
Looking for the Record on Saturday
The 11th-ranked Rams are set for a highly favorable matchup next time out, facing a winless Middle Georgia State team on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30. Saturday's match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT and will be played in Cochran, Ga. A shutout win over the Knights of Middle Georgia State will give this year's Mobile team the all-time program record in consecutive shutouts.
