UM Men's Soccer Makes History with Shutout Win on Saturday

Rams Record Seventh-Straight Shutout for New Program Record

COCHRAN, Ga. -  History was made by the University of Mobile Men's Soccer team on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30 as the Rams came away with a 4-0 victory over Middle Georgia State University on the road. The shutout win for Mobile is the seventh consecutive clean sheet recorded without a loss dating back to Sept. 2 of this season, breaking the previous all-time program record of six-straight shutouts set by the 2011 team at Mobile.

In net, senior goalkeeper Ty Turner has started every match for the Rams during this historic run, tallying 15 total saves in the process. During the shutout span, Mobile has tallied a 5-0-2 record and advances the overall season record to 6-2-2 following Saturday afternoon's win over Middle Georgia St.

Match Recap: Rams Keep Rolling

At the start of the match, the battle between Mobile and Middle Georgia State remained scoreless through the first 30 minutes. However, the Rams snapped the scoreless ballgame in the 31st minute, with Mobile newcomer Louis Dolcini tallying his first goal as a Ram. Jman Dieng earned the assist on Dolcini's first goal this season as two first-year Rams combined to open Mobile's offense. However, Mobile was held to just one goal through the first half on Saturday despite taking eight shots through the first 45 minutes.

Early in the second half, Darlinton Aboagye notched his second goal in as many matches played on the week to give Mobile a 2-0 lead. Aboagye's second goal this year came in the 48th minute, with the assist coming from Joaquin Rivera. Just 11 minutes later, the Rams scored an insurance goal in the 59th minute to put the pressure on the winless Knights of Middle Georgia St. Mobile's third goal came from defender Henrique Luro Mendes, his second goal of the season, following a corner kick from Ivan Jolivet who was awarded the assist. Up 3-0 late, Mobile was not done there, however, as the team scored their fourth and final goal in the 71st minute off the boot of Zacharia Hasler.

From there, the Rams won the match 4-0, outshooting Middle Georgia St., 15-1. Ty Turner played all 90 minutes in net for the Rams, but did not see much action and did not record a save. Mobile's back line of Henrique Luro Mendes, Salia Carr, and Joaquin Rivera kept the Knights out of Mobile territory for the majority of the match, while keeping the shutout record intact for Mobile.

"It's a great job by the whole squad," said Mobile Head Coach Daniel Whelan following the seventh-straight clean sheet performance. "The guys have shown a great resilience to work hard without the ball. Hopefully, we can keep that defensive solidity." The last opponent goal scored against Mobile came in just the third match of the season on Sept. 2 of this year.

Off Week then Tough Match Ahead

Mobile will not see action again this season until Thursday, Oct. 12 at home in what can be considered the toughest match yet this year. The 11th-ranked Rams are scheduled to host No. 2 Dalton State College (Ga.) on that Thursday, with kickoff being scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT at the Jungle.
