DALTON, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team dropped just the second conference match of the year on Friday evening, Oct. 11, falling 1-0 to the Dalton State Roadrunners (Ga.) in north Georgia. Prior to Friday's loss, Mobile has managed three consecutive victories against SSAC teams, outscoring opponents 9-3 in that span.
The conference record drops to 4-2-0 on the season, while the overall record falls to 6-4-1 after the shutout defeat.
Dalton State Defense Shows Out
Mobile struggled to get anything going against Dalton State on Friday, recording just one lone shot in the first half of the match. Despite seven first-half shots, the Roadrunners were kept off the board and the match remained scoreless at halftime.
The eventual game-winning goal came shortly after halftime concluded, with Dalton State's Emma Johnson putting her team ahead with a goal in the 52nd minute. From there, Dalton State held the 1-0 lead and defeated Mobile for second-straight meeting dating back to last season.
Through the full 90 minutes, Dalton State out-shot Mobile 17-4, with the Rams taking three shots alone in the second half. Raegan Latiolais was responsible for three of Mobile's four shots, including a header attempt in the final minutes that was eventually saved by Dalton State goalkeeper Brooke Alvares. Meanwhile, Mobile's Ebba Elweroth picked up five saves in net, allowing the lone, decisive goal.
Sunday Match in North Atlanta
Mobile looks to shake off the defeat to Dalton State with a Sunday afternoon match against the sixth-ranked team in the NAIA. The Rams are set to meet Life University (Ga.) for a conference matchup, bidding for a big upset to conclude the weekend road trip. Sunday's match is scheduled to kick off at 12:30 p.m. CT.
