THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch for the second time in 48 hours on Monday, Oct. 7, hosting Florida National University for a rescheduled match from an earlier postponement this season. The Rams picked up their sixth-straight victory on Monday, defeating the Conquistadors 4-1 to improve to 10-1-1 on the year. The win was highlighted by first-year Ram Emilio Cazares, who notched his second hat trick of the season.
Rams Win Six in a Row
Mobile quickly got on the scoreboard in Monday's midday matchup as forward Emilio Cazares dribbled his way towards the box and shot one past the FNU goalkeeper in the fourth minute of the match. Cazares' open look came following a deep pass from Mobile keeper Ty Turner, who collected a rare goalkeeper assist on the play. For Cazares, the goal was his 10th of the season.
Florida National managed to respond to Mobile's early goal, however, taking advantage of miscommunication between the Rams' back line and Ty Turner in the process. Juan Pugin tied the match following the mistake on defense in the eighth minute, being the only player near the Mobile net.
With the match tied 1-1, Emilio Cazares notched his second goal of the day in the 26th minute to put the Rams out front for good. Fancy passes led to Cazares' 11th goal of the year, with Jeb Scarbrough and Joseph McMahon earning a double-assist. Just three minutes later, Cazares notched goal number three on the day following yet another pass by McMahon, who earned his second assist in the match. Cazares now leads Mobile with 12 goals scored this season, recording a hat trick in just 29 minutes of playing time against Florida National. Cazares netted his first hat trick of 2024 at UT-Southern (Tenn.) on Sept. 21.
Mobile eventually went to halftime with a 3-1 lead, adding a late insurance goal in the second half. Defender Henrique Luro Mendes headed in Mobile's fourth goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute, coming after a corner kick from Guido Solaro. Solaro's assist is his first of the year. From there, Mobile defeated Florida National 4-1, putting together a 12-6 shot differential across the full 90 minutes. Eight of Mobile's 12 shots were recorded on goal, while Ty Turner tallied three saves in net for the Rams.
Monday's match saw plenty of fouls as referees called 44 total fouls in the match. Florida National was called from 30 fouls alone, while picking up four yellow cards. Mobile saw just two yellow cards in the victory.
