Men's Basketball Stays Unbeaten Following Overtime Thriller in Conference Opener

Ezra McKenna, Trent Moye Guide 24th-Ranked Rams to Overtime Win Over Loyola (La.)

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - In a thrilling overtime battle between conference foes, the University of Mobile's Men's Basketball team scored a huge victory over Loyola University (La.) on Thursday night, Nov. 14, securing an 86-79 victory in the SSAC opener in Pharr Gymnasium. The win keeps No. 24 Mobile perfect on the young season, moving to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the SSAC.

Thursday's game saw intense lead changes and critical plays down the stretch, with the Rams being led by standout performances from seniors Ezra McKenna and Trent Moye.

Game Breakdown

The game began with both teams trading baskets, with Mobile narrowly leading 37-36 by halftime. McKenna and Moye set the tone early, contributing a combined 28 points in the first half. McKenna, in particular, dominated inside, pulling down rebounds and scoring key points to keep the Rams in control. In the second half, Loyola managed to edge out Mobile by one point, scoring 39 points to Mobile's 38, sending the game into overtime at a 75-75 deadlock. Loyola's Reece Seicshnaydre came away with a clutch steal and go-ahead basket with just five seconds left in the second half, but Mobile answered with a game-tying layup by Moye with one second remaining to force overtime.

In overtime, Mobile surged in the extra period, outscoring Loyola 11-4 to eventually claim the win. Moye and McKenna continued their strong performances, with Moye hitting clutch free throws to put the game out of reach. The Rams' defense stepped up, holding Loyola to just one field goal in overtime.

McKenna led all players with a 30-point, 17-rebound performance for his fifth double-double in five games this season. He finished 10-for-15 from the floor and 9-for-11 at the free throw line. Moye joined McKenna in having an exceptional night from the free-throw line, going 14-for-16, and finishing with 29 points total. Poise and accuracy were crucial in the overtime period from both players, grabbing a huge win to begin conference play.

Overall, Mobile shot 39.7% from the field (25-for-63), while Loyola had a slightly better percentage at 46.3% (31-for-67). Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with Mobile hitting just six threes at 24% and the Wolf Pack shooting 25% from deep. Mobile dominated the boards with a total of 41 rebounds compared to Loyola's 34, while capitalizing on free-throw opportunities, going 30-for-46 (65.2%). Loyola went just 12-for-23 at the line (52.2%).

This victory not only marks Mobile's fifth consecutive win to begin the year, but also sets a strong foundation for the rest of the upcoming SSAC season, slated to continue in just two days on the road.
