Rams End Regular Season with Sweep Over SUNO on Monday

Volleyball Concludes Regular Season with 26-4 Overall Record; Set for Upcoming Conference Tournament

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team wrapped up the 2024 regular season with a strong 3-0 victory over Southern University of New Orleans (La.) on Monday, Nov. 4, finishing the 2024 regular season with an impressive 26-4 overall record. The Rams dominated all three sets, winning 25-11, 25-19, and 25-10, finishing the year with an eight-match winning streak and a 12-1 mark in conference play. Mobile enters the upcoming SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed, having not lost a match since Sept. 27.

Match Highlights / Key Performers

Mobile showed a strong offensive attack throughout Monday's win over SUNO, racking up 48 kills as a team off a .356 hitting percentage. Dazsha Dean Middleton led with eight kills on an impressive .583 hitting percentage, while Layton Adams contributed seven kills and a .545 percentage. Mobile also picked up eight service aces against the SUNO Knights, with Tatum Beech leading the way with four aces on the night. Beech, who was named SSAC Volleyball Setter of the Week for the fifth time this season earlier in the day, notched a match-high 21 assists in the regular season finale.

On the defensive side, Lexi Gillette led the Rams in digs for the second-straight match, collecting 12 against SUNO's attack. Libero Jaci Drinnon tallied 10 digs in the winning effort, bringing her season total to an SSAC-best 533 in her first season with Mobile. On the front line, Mobile only recorded one block as a team, coming from Aspen Adams and Dazsha Dean Middleton

For the Knights, SUNO struggled against Mobile's aggressive play, recording just a .078 hitting percentage with 21 kills and 14 attack errors. Alaina Obianozie led her team with six kills on a .500 hitting percentage, while Armoni Harris contributed defensively with 17 digs. As a team, the Knights managed four blocks.

Overall, the Rams controlled the match from start to finish, overwhelming the GCAC-member on their home floor. With the victory, Mobile heads into the postseason on a strong note, aiming to carry momentum forward in tournament play.

SSAC Conference Tourney Up Next

Mobile is now set for postseason play after Monday's performance, with the Rams entering the 2024 SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament as the top seed and regular season champions. This year's conference tournament is scheduled for Nov. 14-16 in Montgomery, Ala., with each match being held at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl downtown.

Seeding for pool play is yet to be finalized across the conference, but the Rams are scheduled to face to No. 5 seed at 9:00 a.m. CT on Nov. 14 to begin action. More information on this year's conference tournament can be found HERE.
