H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team secured a commanding 104-55 victory over NCCAA member University of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) on Saturday, Dec. 14, improving to 9-3 overall on the season. The Rams demonstrated dominance from start to finish in Pharr Gymnasium, showcasing offensive firepower and a stifling defense throughout the full 40 minutes.
Mobile surpassed 100 points for the first time in over a decade on Saturday, with the last 100-point game coming against Concordia College Selma (Ala.) on Dec. 5, 2009 where the Rams scored 112 points.
Game Highlights
Mobile exploded with 36 points in the opening quarter against the Eagles, who played Saturday's contest with just seven active players. The huge performance in the first quarter set the tone for the game as Mobile continued to build a significant lead throughout the remainder of the half. By the second quarter, the Rams' defensive pressure continued, allowing only six points, while adding 20 points to their tally for a 56-21 lead at halftime.
Mobile maintained control in the second half, highlighted by a 31-point third quarter and contributions from the bench, which added 20 points overall. The team showcased excellent ball movement and accuracy from beyond the arc, finishing 40.7% (11-of-27) from three-point range in the 49-point victory.
Overall, the Rams shot an impressive 52.5% from the field. Miriam Oldacre led the scoring with career-best 32 points, highlighted by five three-pointers. Oldacre finished the day making an impressive 12 of 15 shots from the field, while adding three made free throws and nine rebounds to finish one board shy of a double-double.
Braylee McMath followed by contributing 22 points and four assists in the win, while Alanna Donaldson finished with 14 points and three assists. Verd Fontaine notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes from off the bench.
Mobile's defense forced 20 total turnovers and accumulated 14 steals, capitalizing with 28 points off turnovers. The Rams pulled down 50 total boards in Saturday's win, 20 of which came from the offensive side. Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale was held to just 28 rebounds.
Next Up
Mobile is scheduled to return to action after the Christmas holiday with a pair of non-conference road games against SUN Conference opponents on Dec. 30-31. Mobile will face Ave Maria University (Fla.) on Dec. 30, while facing New College of Florida the following day. Both games will be played in Ave Maria, Fla. and are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
