UM Women's Basketball Stays Unbeaten at Home Following Thursday Victory

Rams Improve to 10-0 in Pharr Gymnasium with Win Over Blue Mountain

H. AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team improved to 19-4 overall on the year on Thursday evening, Feb. 1, earning a 19-point victory over Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) inside Pharr Gymnasium. Additionally, Thursday's victory for Mobile is the Rams' 10th win of the season at home, staying perfect with a 10-0 record on the team's home court. Mobile's last loss at home came on Feb. 16, 2023 during the 2022-23 season.

Mobile enters a three-game road stretch following the win over Blue Mountain sitting in second in the current SSAC Women's Basketball standings with an 11-3 conference record. The Rams trail first-place Loyola University (La.) in the standings by 1.5 games, while meeting the Wolf Pack for the first time this season on Saturday in the SSAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week.

Thursday Game Recap / Stat Highlights

The Rams opened Thursday's contest with a 22-12 advantage in the first quarter, with senior Erica Jones scoring 15 points alone through the first 10 minutes of the game. The Rams kept their foot on the gas petal in the second quarter, adding 19 more points to go into halftime with 41 points. Meanwhile, Blue Mountain managed 18 points in the second quarter, trailing Mobile 41-30 at the break. Mobile finished the first half with 16 made shots from the floor, five coming from Jones alone.

In the second half, the Toppers of Blue Mountain managed to get back into the game, outscoring Mobile 19-14 in the third quarter and trailing by just six points. Needing to fight off the visitor's comeback, Mobile's offense then exploded in the fourth, sealing the game with a game-best 26-point quarter and eventually won by 19 points. Erica Jones managed her second double-digit quarter of the game, finishing with 10 points in the final 10 minutes of regulation. 

Jones ended Thursday with 28 points, adding a pair of steals. She finished 9-for-13 from the floor, while making eight of 12 free throw attempts. Alanna Donaldson finished behind Jones with 18 points, securing six rebounds and five assists, and Miya Kimber notched 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in the victory. As a team, Mobile finished with a 45% shooting line from the field, scoring 20 points off second chance opportunities. The Rams out-rebounded Blue Mountain, 37-36.

SSAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week Upcoming

The SSAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week is slated for a 12:00 p.m. CT start time on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 3 in New Orleans, La., and will feature the visiting Mobile Rams versus No. 14 Loyola (La.). Saturday's game between the Wolf Pack and Mobile is the first of two regular season games between the conference foes.
