Baseball Drops Two More Games on Friday to Conclude Play in the Cajun Collision

Rams Open 2024 Season 0-4 in Sterlington

STERLINGTON, La. - It was a rough opening weekend for the University of Mobile Baseball team as the Rams finish the annual Cajun Collision 0-4 in Sterlington, La. Mobile played two games on both Thursday and Friday, Feb. 8-9, wrapping up the tournament with games against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Tex.) and Texas Wesleyan University on Friday.

Mobile opened the day with a morning loss to SAGU in extra innings, falling 8-5. Later that evening, No. 21 Texas Wesleyan managed to defeat the 18th-ranked Rams 14-6 in seven innings. Mobile travels home 0-4 to open the year, set to begin conference play next week.

Friday Notables
  • Mobile out-hit SAGU in game one 7-6, but allowed a walk-off three-run home run in the ninth.
  • Newcomer Bryce Eddington recorded two home runs in the loss to SAGU, eventually finishing 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Ethan McPherson got the start on the mound for the Rams, finishing with a line of 7.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 3 K, 3 BB, 3 HBP.
  • Against No. 21 Texas Wesleyan, Mobile used six pitchers as the Texas Wesleyan Rams collected 14 runs off 12 hits.
  • Mobile mustered just four hits and six total runs, with two runs coming in the final inning.
  • Bryce Eddington led the offense with two of Mobile's four hits, while Cameron Brock picked up two RBIs. 
  • The Rams of Mobile struck out 11 times across the seven innings.

SSAC Action Up Next

Mobile will look the flush the first weekend of the 2024 season and turn their attention towards SSAC play beginning next week. Mobile is scheduled for a three-game series against Middle Georgia State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17 in Cochran, Ga. The two teams will open the series with a Friday doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. CT.
