AUSTILL PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team improved to 23-4 during the 2023-24 season on Thursday evening, Feb. 15, defeating Life University (Ga.) 79-50 for the team's sixth consecutive victory. Mobile, still searching for votes in the NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25, continues to push for national recognition as the Rams earn the regular season sweep over the 19-7 Running Eagles of Life, while staying perfect at home with an 11-0 home record. Additionally, Mobile's SSAC record improves 15-3 as the Rams are set to take on the top-seeded Wolf Pack of Loyola (La.) next on the schedule.
Rams Make Statement
One day after the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Top 25 rankings were released, Mobile hosted Life in Pharr Gymnasium and scooted past the Running Eagles by 29 points. Mobile opened Thursday's game by outscoring Life 18-11 across the first quarter, while adding 16 more points in the second. Meanwhile, Life was held to just nine second-quarter points and trailed the Rams 34-20 at halftime.
Mobile came out of the break on fire, producing a stellar 27-point third quarter. The Rams shot 9-for-15 from the field in the third, led by Miya Kimber with 10 points in the quarter alone. Life managed 17 points in the third, but trailed big entering the final 10 minutes of the game. In the final quarter, Mobile's lead only increased as the Rams outscored Life 18-13 in the fourth, eventually winning, 79-50.
As a team, Mobile finished with a 40% shooting line, making 27 total shots in the victory. Additionally, the Rams were lights out from in the free throw category, finishing 22-for-26 at the line. The Rams collected 40 rebounds compared to Life's 33, while forcing a whopping 25 turnovers. A total of 24 of Mobile's 70 points in the win came off takeaways.
Mobile Head Coach Sydney Westry saw seven players score on Thursday, with all seven players recording at least nine points. Alanna Donaldson led the charge with 18 points, while leading Mobile with four steals. Erica Jones followed with 14 points, with Braylee McMath and Miya Kimber each tallying 10 points. MacKenzie White, Miriam Oldarcre, and Lindi Debilzan all notched nine points each against Life.
SSAC's Top Two Teams Meet Next
With just two regular season games remaining this year, Mobile's next game on the schedule comes against Loyola on Tuesday, Jan. 20 in Pharr Gymnasium. With a win, Mobile will jump Loyola for first place in the conference standings after the Rams knocked off the Wolf Pack in New Orleans, La. back on Feb. 3. Next Tuesday's meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted live HERE.
