COCHRAN, Ga. - One day after a doubleheader split between the University of Mobile Baseball team and Middle Georgia State University, the Knights of Middle Georgia St. took the rubber match on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 17, shutting out the Rams of Mobile, 4-0. The loss for Mobile on Saturday drops the overall record to 1-6 on the season, while falling in the first SSAC series of the season. Following the series in Cochran, Ga., the Rams are scheduled for the first home game at Jacobs Field next on the schedule.
The Basics
Mobile was held to five hits in the shutout defeat, with J.T. Lastorka leading the offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The five hits came within the first five batters in the starting lineup. The Rams worked just one base-on-balls, while striking out six times as a team. Mobile finished the weekend series against Middle Georgia St. with five hits in each of the three games played.
Middle Georgia St. relied on a four-run fifth inning to decide Saturday's game, with all four runs being charged to starting pitcher Ethan McPherson. Prior to the rough fifth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run home run from Jacob Pierce of Middle Georgia St., McPherson managed four shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Landon Moore followed McPherson on the rubber and pitched three scoreless innings from out of the Mobile bullpen, collecting four strikeouts.
For the Knights, 6'6 senior Daniel Vos tossed seven scoreless innings on the mound against the Mobile bats, racking up four strikeouts and giving up five hits. Vos walked just one batter, while reliever Evan Boyle closed out the game with two hitless frames.
First Series at Jacob Field On Deck
With seven games officially completed on the young 2024 campaign, Mobile is set for the first home series of the year at Jacobs Field next weekend. The Rams will host UT-Southern (Tenn.) for a three-game SSAC series on Feb. 23-24, starting with a Friday doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. CT.
