WEST POINT, Ga. - The University of Mobile Softball team wrapped up a four-game weekend road trip on Friday afternoon, Mar. 29 in West Point, Ga., finishing the weekend with a 3-1 overall record against SSAC opponents. After a doubleheader split with Faulkner (Ala.) on Thursday evening, No. 13 Mobile swept the Skyhawks of Point University (Ga.) in two games on Friday afternoon, highlighted by a no-hitter in game two.
Mobile improves the overall record to 19-8 this year, while improving to 11-3 in the SSAC portion of the schedule.
How It Happened
The pitching staff dazzled on Friday against Point (5-25), with Mobile securing two shutout victories over the Skyhawks. In game one, Mobile cruised to a 7-0 victory over Point to kick off the afternoon, out-hitting the opposition, 11-2. Avery Harrell got the nod on the rubber in game one, finishing with a complete game shutout, giving up just the two hits. Harrell faced 25 batters and struck out four, while throwing 91 total pitches.
On the offensive side, Caitlin McRee finished 2-for-4 at the plate, driving in three runs following a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning. Jill Robinson went 3-for-3 at the dish, collecting her second home run of the season in the process. As a whole, the Mobile lineup struck out just once against Point in game one, eventually leaving five runners left on base.
Later on Friday, Emily Butts continued the Mobile dominance from the pitcher's circle in game two, throwing her second-career no-hitter. Butts, a senior in her final season with the Rams, pitched all seven innings and struck out nine batters on just 82 pitches thrown in Mobile's first no-hitter of the year. Butts' last no-hitter came in a five-inning performance against Talladega College (Ala.) during the 2022 season. Teammate Brinkley Goff, who has two-career no-hitters, recorded Mobile's last no-no back in March of the 2023 season. Prior to Goff's no-no in 2023 and five-inning no-hitter in 2022, Karley Sanders notched Mobile's last no-no during 2016 campaign. Butts lowers her ERA this season to a team-best 1.27 in 77 1/3 innings of work following Friday's historic performance.
Meanwhile, Mobile tallied a 3-0 win in game two, with Caitlin McRee driving in two of the three runs scored. McRee picked up two RBI singles during her 3-for-4 game two performance, followed by Lillie Lanham with a 1-for-4 line at the plate and being responsible for Mobile's other RBI. The Rams picked up just five hits as a team in the victory.

Mobile is scheduled to return to action on the road next week, meeting No. 9 Georgia Gwinnett College (21-8) for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 2. Tuesday's two games will be played in Lawrenceville, Ga. and are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CT.
