JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Baseball team hosted area rival Spring Hill College (Ala.) for a single non-conference game on Tuesday night, Apr. 10 at Jacobs Field, eventually defeating the Badgers 14-4 in a run-rule victory. The performance for Mobile marks the second consecutive game where the Rams have scored 14 runs in a single contest, with the team coming off a 14-12 victory over No. 14 Loyola in New Orleans, La. this past weekend.
Mobile moves back to .500 on the season with the dominating win over Spring Hill, entering an important three-game conference series this upcoming weekend with a 14-14 overall record. Additionally, Mobile holds a 12-9 record in the SSAC and currently sits fourth in the conference standings.
Rams Bash the Badgers
After a scoreless first inning on a cloudy and windy Tuesday night, Spring Hill managed to open the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. Mobile's offense immediately responded next half inning, however, pushing across six runs in the second inning alone to take the lead. From there, Mobile did not look back.
Mobile batted around in the second inning, recording four hits in the frame. Two Spring Hill errors on the defensive side helped the cause as four of Mobile's six runs in the inning went unearned. Two innings later, the Rams batted around for the second time in the game and scored seven additional runs across the fourth. Spring Hill added four more errors in the fourth to keep the momentum rolling on Mobile's side, with the Rams leading 13-2 over the Badgers entering the fifth.
In the fifth inning, Mobile added an additional run following a balk. Mobile produced a 12-run lead, which then saw head coach Kyle Friday begin emptying his bench. In total, 25 players on the Mobile roster hit the field against Spring Hill on Tuesday, with the Rams eventually winning the game in seven innings, 14-4.
Alex McWhorter highlighted the day on the offensive side with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, adding a walk and scoring two runs. Both Sam Bowman and J.T. Lastorka recorded a pair of RBIs each off doubles in the victory, while designated hitter Sam Mansell finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and walk. Overall, Mobile out-hit Spring Hill 11-7, with the Badgers committing six errors in the defeat.
On the mound, Jaden Clinton earned the win in a bullpen game for Mobile, tossing two innings to open the game. Kyle Friday used six pitchers in the victory on Tuesday, with Jacob Wright closing things out with a scoreless top of the seventh, working two strikeouts.
