WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. - After a 1-1 start at the Vipers Sports Academy Classic, the University of Mobile Volleyball team returned to the court on day two of the three-day tournament and faced off with Spartanburg Methodist College (S.C.). In the late night match, Mobile cruised past the Pioneers in straight-set fashion, earning the first sweep of the year.
The Rams improve to 2-1 on the young 2024 season, scheduled for just one remaining match in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Rams Blank Spartans
Across the three sets played against Spartanburg Methodist, the Pioneers never scored over 16 points, with Mobile winning 25-11, 25-10, 25-16. Mobile managed to record an attack percentage just under .450, with the team tallying 49 kills on 86 attempts. The Rams made just 11 attack errors.
Corrina Porch-Maxey and Kendel Lee Frazer once again paced the offense for Mobile, with Porch-Maxey notching 13 kills and Frazer securing 11. Dazsha Dean Middleton and Layton Adams followed with six kills each, while sophomore Emma Hampton picked up five. No player with a minimum of five attack attempts hit under .350 in the win.
Tatum Beech led the Rams for the third-straight match in assists, recording 21, and Layton Adams followed with 17. Aspen Adams put together a strong night from the service line, racking up seven total aces in the match, tying her for fourth all-time in a single match in program history. Defensively, Mobile libero Jaci Drinnon was the only player to record double-digit dig totals, finishing with 13. As a team, the Rams recorded 47 digs and six blocks.
Because of the dominating performance, Mobile Head Coach Jon Campbell saw opportunity to play reserves as 21 players played at least one set in the box score.
Final Day in West Palm
Mobile is set for one more match at the Vipers Sports Academy Classic, coming on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. CT against Taylor University (Ind.). With a win, the Rams travel home with a 3-1 start to the 2024 campaign.
