No. 10 Mobile Manages Second Consecutive 3-0 Shutout to Begin 2024 Season

Rams Roll in Two Matches at Home

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - Coming off a season opening victory on Thursday evening, Aug. 22 against SCAD-Savannah (Ga.), the University of Mobile Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch early on Saturday morning, Aug. 24 for a non-conference matchup against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.). Similar to the season opener, Mobile secured a 3-0 victory over the Eagles of ERAU, starting the 2024 campaign with a 2-0-0 overall record.

The Rams hit the scoreboard in the 10th minute of the match on Saturday, with Joseph McMahon continuing his hot start to the season by scoring his third goal of the year. McMahon managed two goals against SCAD in the season opener, and is responsible for three of Mobile's six goals across two matches. Newcomer Emilio Cazares picked up the assist on McMahon's 10th-minute goal.

Later in the first half, Mobile went up 2-0 over Embry-Riddle, with defender Henrique Luro Mendes recording his first goal of the season. Mendes' goal came following a corner kick attempt that eventually saw Samuel Mutiri rocket a shot off the post. The deflection off the post went towards Mendes who headed the loose ball in the net in the 22nd minute. From there, the Rams went to the break with a 2-0 lead, out-shooting the Eagles 11-1 through the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Mobile notched an insurance goal in the 79th minute to put the match away. Darlinton Aboagye recorded his first score of the year for Mobile's third goal, with Emilio Cazares earning his second assist of the morning. The match eventually went final 3-0 in favor of Mobile, with the defense holding Embry-Riddle to just two shots in the match. The Eagles' second shot of the day came from midfield with just two seconds remaining. Goalkeeper Ty Turner punched the ball away for his second save of the match and second shutout in as many matches. Mobile finished the day with 21 total shots.

Tuesday Home Matchup

Mobile is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday night, Aug. 27 at the Jungle, hosting LSU-Shreveport (La.) in the process. Tuesday's matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted live on UMSN (University of Mobile Sports Network). Mobile is 5-0-1 all-time against the Pilots of LSU-S, tying last time out in 2022.
