THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The shutouts continue for the University of Mobile Men's Soccer team as the Rams improve to 3-0-0 on the young 2024 season following a 2-0 win over LSU-Shreveport (La.) on Tuesday night, Aug. 27. The 2-0 shutout at the Jungle is Mobile's third-straight to open the season, with Mobile winning two 3-0 matches at home last weekend. Starting goalkeeper and reigning NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week Ty Turner has been in net for all three matches to begin play.
Mobile Quiets Pilots
On Tuesday night, Mobile and LSU-S met for the first time since a 2-2 draw during the 2022 season, with the Rams controlling the shot totals 6-2 through the first 45 minutes. The match remained scoreless through the first 30 minutes, but Mobile quickly changed that following a corner kick opportunity. Sophomore Noah Miller produced a perfect delivery in the box from the corner, while defender Henrique Luro Mendes finished with a header to put the Rams on the board. Mendes' second goal of the season came in the 31st minute and was the only goal for either side in the first half. Noah Miller was credited with his first assist this year.
In the second half, the Rams went up 2-0 following a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Newcomer Emilio Cazares notched his first goal as a Ram following the PK attempt. From there, the match went final with Mobile earning the shutout. The Rams out-shot LSU-S 10-3, recording three shots-on-goal. Meanwhile, the Pilots did not record a shot on target.
Fouls were plentiful in Tuesday's matchup as eight yellow cards were shown across the full 90 minutes. Six were displayed on LSU-S players, with the Pilots being called for 31 total fouls. Mobile was whistled for just 15 fouls.
Big Tests Upcoming
Following a 3-0-0 start at home, the Rams are set for first action away from the Jungle this upcoming weekend in Atlanta, Ga. Mobile is one of several top programs in the NAIA to make the trip to Atlanta for a Labor Day weekend tournament.
Mobile will start the weekend with a match against No. 24 Cumberlands (Ky.) at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 31, while later facing No. 7 Grace (Ind.) on Monday, Sept. 2 at 11:00 a.m. CT. The matchups are the first for the Rams against ranked competition this year, coming after Mobile defeated LSU-S, a team receiving votes.
