Mobile's Emilio Cazares Records Hat Trick in Saturday Victory Over UT-Southern

Rams Win 5-2 Against Firehawks in Pulaski, Tenn.

PULASKI, Tenn. - The ninth-ranked University of Mobile Men's Soccer team collected a 5-2 victory over the University of Tennessee Southern on Saturday afternoon, Sept 21, improving to 6-1-1 overall on the year and 2-0-0 in the SSAC. Mobile's win was highlighted by a three-goal performance from first-year Ram Emilio Cazares, with all three of Cazares' goals coming in the second half after a 1-1 score at halftime.

How It Happened

Joseph McMahon opened the scoring on Saturday with his team-leading sixth goal of the season for Mobile. McMahon's goal came in the 16th minute after the first 15 minutes of the match went scoreless. He has now scored in three-straight matches. UT-Southern answered back later in the first half, however, tying the match 1-1 with a goal in the 28th minute. From there, the match went to the break tied at one goal a piece, with the Rams out-shooting the Firehawks 10-3 through the first 45 minutes.

Quickly after the start of the second half, the Rams grabbed the lead back with a goal in the 47th minute. Sophomore Noah Miller notched his first goal of the year to give Mobile the lead, with Ismael Castillo earning the assist. Just under 10 minutes later, Emilio Cazares gave the Rams a 3-1 lead after his first goal of the evening in the 55th minute. From there, Cazares notched two more goals across the 62nd and 79th minutes for the hat trick performance. Three of Cazares' four shots against UT-Southern found the net for a score.

UT-Southern limited the damage with a late goal in the 86th minute, but Mobile finished off the match with a 5-2 victory. The Rams totaled 22 shots in the win, with 11 shots being recorded on target. UT-Southern only took six shots in the defeat against No. 9 Mobile.

The five-goal performance is Mobile's best of the season so far, with the team averaging 2.17 goals in eight matches played this year. Additionally, the Mobile defense allows under one goal per match this year as goalkeeper Ty Turner has collected 22 saves across all eight matches. Turner has allowed only six goals this season, including two on Saturday, while picking up a pair of saves against UT-Southern.
