Offense Explodes for No. 7 Mobile in Rout Over Brewton-Parker

Mobile Picks Up Nine Goals in Thursday NIght Match at the Jungle

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team returned to the Jungle on Thursday night, Sept. 26, hosting Brewton-Parker College in an SSAC matchup. Thursday's match saw the Rams dominate the Barons, with Mobile racking up nine total goals to cruise to a 9-0 shutout win, improving to 7-1-1 on the season in the process. Additionally, Mobile remains unbeaten to open SSAC action, with the conference record improving to 3-0-0 this year.

Rams Roll Brewton-Parker

With Mobile controlling possession of the ball for the majority of the 90-minute match, shots came in bunches throughout the night. The Rams hit the scoreboard in the 11th minute after Joseph McMahon collected his team-leading seventh goal of the year following a pass from Noah Miller, who earned the assist. Nine minutes later in the 20th minute, Henrique Luro Mendes picked up his third goal of the season following a header that found the net after a corner kick from Jeb Scarbrough. Scarbough was awarded the assist as Mobile took a 2-0 advantage.

Joseph McMahon kept his strong season going later in the first half, scoring his second goal of the night and eighth of the season in the 36th minute. Noah Miller produced a corner kick that found the head of Henrique Luro Mendes who then found the boot of McMahon to finish Mobile's third score of the evening. From there, Mobile went to halftime leading Brewton-Parker 3-0, recording 16 total shots in the first half.

In the second half, Mobile did not let off the gas pedal as the Rams added on to their 3-0 lead. Noah Miller's strong night continued as the sophomore scored his second goal of the evening in the 55th minute. Ismael Castillo then followed with fancy dribbling past several defenders and his first goal scored of the season. The Rams led 5-0 after 60 minutes of playing time.

Coming off a hat trick performance on the road against UT-Southern last weekend, Emilio Cazares recorded his first score on Thursday in the 64th minute, with Adam Byzdra picking up the assist. Just 14 minutes later, Cazares collected goal number two on the evening as the first-year Ram flirted with his second-straight hat trick. Joaquin Rivera earned the assist on Cazares' second goal against the Barons.

Leading 7-0, Mobile scored two more goals in the closing minutes against a Barons' defense that looked exhausted. Newcomer Oscar Hartley recorded his first-career goal in the 83rd minute, while long-time Ram Nathaniel Larkin closed out the scoring with his first-career goal in the 85th minute. Larkin's goal came following a corner kick from Joaquin Rivera, who tallied his second assist on the night.

In total, Mobile tallied 39 shots in the big win over the Barons, with 14 shots being recorded on goal. A total of 15 Rams recorded at least one shot on Thursday, with Emilio Cazares pacing the way with nine shots alone. Meanwhile, Brewton-Parker only mustered two shots in the full 90 minutes. Mobile Head Coach Daniel Whelan elected to give starting goalkeeper Ty Turner the night off as Sam MacDonald was awarded his first start of the year in net. MacDonald is credited with the shutout win and recorded one save in the victory.

The nine-goal performance brings No. 7 Mobile's goal totals to 26 in nine matches this season, with the Rams averaging 2.89 goals per match on the year. Additionally, Mobile averages 18 shots per match halfway through the regular season.
