PULASKI, Tenn. - Coming off a dominating 9-0 win over Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) prior, the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team had a tough task on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21 in a matchup against No. 5 UT-Southern (Tenn.). Mobile eventually fell to the Firehawks 7-1, seeing the overall record on the season drop back to 3-3-1 on the year and 1-1-0 in the SSAC.
UT-Southern opened the scoring early in Saturday's match, scoring the first goal in just the seventh minute. Just seconds later, UT-Southern went up 2-0 with the team's second goal in the seventh minute. The Firehawks then notched their third goal in the 20th minute to take a 3-0 advantage over Mobile. The Rams did manage to avoid a shutout against the NAIA's fifth-ranked team, however, with Carla Saborido putting the Rams on the scoreboard with a goal in the 28th minute. Saborido's goal is her second in as many matches on the weekend.
From there, the Firehawks added three more goals in the first half alone, leading 6-1 at halftime. In the second half, UT-Southern added one more goal for good measure to eventually defeat Mobile, 7-1. Mobile starting goalkeeper Ebba Elweroth saw 29 total shots against the opposition, collecting 12 saves. Mobile's offense was only able to produce three shots in the defeat.
