Rams End Home Stretch with a Run of Wins as Away Stretch Approaches

UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Sotball team rounded out their final home doubleheader of March with two wins to end the week 6-0 having competed in three home doubleheaders in four days. The Rams beat the Skyhawks of Point University 9-1 and 6-0 in the series to move to 22-7 overall this season with a 9-3 record in conference play. Mobile secure the regular season victory over Point with the two teams only scheduled for the one meeting in the regular season.

Game One - Mobile 9, Point 1 - Five Innings

The Rams got things started early on with Katelynn Kempton hitting a single to left field, bringing home Gracie Mitchell from third base. Heather Knowles would extend the lead with a double down the left field line that scored Bethany Dean from second. Mitchell would score again for the Rams in the third inning to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team. Point would get one back in the fourth inning on a single to right field, but the scoring would end there for the Skyhawks. Dean would be brought home to make it 4-1 after Carleigh Bowden hit an impressive double down the right field line. The Rams would drive home 5 more runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the run rule victory over the Skyhawks in game one. Mobile would end game one with 16 hits compared to Point's 3, and Pitcher Riley Smith picked up the win having struck out 6 batters in the five inning contest.

Game Two - Mobile 6, Point 0

Mobile kept their momentum going in game two behind Avery Harrell's strong performance from the circle. In similar fashion to game one, Katelynn Kempton would once again score Gracie Mitchell from third, this time off of a single through the right side. Kempton had a strong outing in game two in which she added a 2 RBI double to right field before coming home to score on a Madilyn Sheffield homer. The Rams would hold their 6-0 lead from the third inning all the way through to the end to take game two and sweep the doubleheader.
