JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, ALA. - The University of Mobile Baseball team started off the conference series on Thursday, March 6th, with a win against the Brewton-Parker Barons. The Rams went back and forth with the Barons throughout the match swapping leads five times throughout the nine innings. Mobile left it late and scored 4 runs between the seventh and eight innings to seal a game one victory.
How It Unfolded
Mobile's lead off hitter, Peyton Bell, was hit by a pitch to put him on first, and in the next at bat, he would steal second and advance to third after the catcher missed a throw to the second baseman. Mobile would extend their streak of scoring in the first inning, as a balk would send Peyton Bell home to score. Brewton Parker would score 2 runs in the second inning before Mobile tied it up with another run coming home off an error from the Barons' catcher. Trey Simpkins hit a single down the right field line to score Sam Bowman from third to take the lead back in the third inning. The Barons would go on to take a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning where Mobile would begin their comeback. A wild pitch brought home Jaron Harris and Grant Driver and in the next inning, Peyton Bell and Cameron Brock would get back to back hits to take a 7-5 lead into the final inning. Brewton-Parker would try to stage a comeback of their own with a solo homerun, but their efforts would fall short as Mobile would hold on for the win.
Looking Ahead For the Rams
Mobile are back at home again tomorrow March 7th, at 1:00pm CT for a doubleheader to close out the series against Brewton-Parker. Mobile advance to (13-10) overall and (3-4) in conference play with the win.
