UM Golf Partakes In Skyhawk Invitational; Riley Places Second Overall

J. MICHAEL RILEY PLACES SECOND INDIVIDUALLY AS TEAM TOP-FIVE STREAK COMES TO AN END

 

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - It was a beautiful two days of golf in Pine Mountain, Ga. on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 8-9 as both the men's and women's golf teams at the University of Mobile competed in the popular Point Skyhawk Invitational at Calloway Gardens and Resort.

The men's tournament was three rounds and featured 16 competing teams. A total of 81 golfers competed in the three-round tournament. In the women's tournament, 10 teams competed that featured a total of 57 golfers. The women's tournament was just two rounds.

For Mobile, both the men's and women's team placed sixth overall in the two-day tournament. UM Men's Golf finished with an overall score of 894 (+30) with their top two rounds coming in the final two rounds as they scored a 295 in both. Their sixth-place finish snapped a four-tournament streak where the Rams have placed in the top two this season.

In the men's tournament, J. Michael Riley (SR/Mobile, Ala.) finished second overall out of the 81 participants with a 213 (-3) total score. Riley did not shoot over par in any of the three rounds and recorded his best score in the final round, shooting a 70 (-2). Riley finished just three strokes behind the leader. This marks the second-straight tournament where Riley has placed second overall. He was later named to the Point Skyhawk Invitational All-Tournament team at the awards ceremony.

Ben Bryant (SO/Louisville, Kentucky) and Noah Martino (SR/Mobile, Ala.) were the second and third place finishers for the Rams as Bryant finished T18 with an overall score of 224 (+8). Martino finished T24 with a score of 226 (+10).

For UM Women's Golf, the team finished with an overall score of 681 (+105) across the two rounds. They are coming off their best average finish since 2017 and put together another better average finish in the Skyhawk Invitational with their sixth overall placement. 

Josie Headrick (SR/Slidell, La.) led Mobile in the women's tournament by cracking the top ten and placing T10 overall. Headrick shot 161 (+17) in the two-round tournament. Behind Headrick was Macy Mareno (SR/Grand Bay, Ala.), who placed T26 with a 169 (+25), and Adi Argent (SO/Clanton, Ala.) who finished T34 with a 176 (+32).

  

Both teams will take a week off and return to action in two weeks in the 2021 Wolf Pack Spring Invitational in Abita Springs, La. on Mar. 22-23. The two-day tournament will be played at the Money Hill Country Club.
