UM GOLF TEAMS WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON IN CAREY COLLEGIATE CLASSIC IN HATTIESBURG
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Golf program concluded their 2020-21 regular seasons in the Carey Collegiate Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 29-30. In the two-day tournament at the Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss., UM Men's Golf placed fourth out of six teams. On the women's side, just two schools competed as teams including Mobile as the Rams placed second behind William Carey.
In the men's tournament, Mobile shot 597 over the two rounds played. The Rams shot seven strokes better in round two than they did in round one.
Noah Martino (SR/Mobile, Ala.) shot one under par in both rounds, giving him a total score of 142 (-2) in the tournament. Martino's score earned him a medal as he finished tied for second place with two other golfers.
J. Michael Riley (SR/Mobile, Ala.) finished tied for 11th with a 146 (+2). Riley shot one under par in round one, but struggled in round two shooting four over par.
Steven Johnson (JR/Panama City, Fla.), Ben Bryant (SO/Louisville, Kentucky) and Cy Smith (FR/Lucedale, Miss.) struggled this week and finished near the back of the pack in the tournament. Johnson placed tied for 26th with a 153 (+9), Bryant shot 156 (+12) and placed tied for 32nd and Smith placed tied for 34th with a 157 (+13). A total of 43 golfers participated in the men's tournament.
In the women's tournament, not many teams showed up as more players played as individuals than teams. Mobile and William Carey ended the tournament as the only two teams.
The Rams shot a team score of 690 (+114) in the two-round tournament. Josie Headrick (SR/Slidell, La.) finished ninth overall, which led the team. Headrick shot 160 (+16) in the tournament.
Finishing second on the team for Mobile was Kelsey Dill (FR/Carriere, Miss.). Dill shot a 172 (+28), which tied her for 11th place. Adi Argent (SO/Clanton, Ala.) finished right behind Dill with a 175 (+31), placing her in 13th.
Emily Hagan (FR/Zachary, La.) and Cameryn Edwards (FR/Silverhill, Ala.) placed 15th and 16th in the tournament with Hagan shooting a 184 (+40) and Edwards shooting a 197 (+53).
With the regular season in the rear view mirrors, the University of Mobile Golf program turns their attention to the SSAC Golf Championship Tournament.
The men's tournament will be played at Robert Trent Jones Cambrian Ridge in Greenville, Ala. on Apr. 19-21. The women's tournament will be played a week later at the same location on Apr. 26-28.
