UM GOLF TEAMS COMPETE IN THE 2021 WOLF PACK SPRING INVITATIONAL IN ABITA SPRINGS
ABITA SPRINGS, La. - The University of Mobile Golf teams competed in their sixth tournament of the 2020-21 season on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 22-23 in the 2021 Wolf Pack Spring Invitational at the Money Hill Golf and Country Club in Abita Springs, La. The tournament was hosted by Loyola University (La.).
Due to weather in the area, the tournament schedule was changed before tee time. On Monday, players played 27 holes in both the women's and men's tournament, leaving just nine holes to be played in the second round on Tuesday. The women's and men's tournaments were just two rounds.
In the women's tournament, Mobile placed fourth out of the six competing teams with a team score of 713 (+137). Round one was much better for the Rams, as they shot a team score of 349 compared to their second round score of 364.
Josie Headrick (SR/Slidell, La.) finished 16th overall out of 39 total participants, leading the team with a total score of 162 (+18). Headrick finished round one tied for 11th, shooting a 78 (+6) on the par 72 course. Behind Headrick was freshman Kelsey Dill (FR/Carriere, Miss.), who placed tied for 23rd with a score of 181 (+37).
Adi Argent (SO/Clanton, Ala.), who placed 27th overall, finished with a score of 183 (+39). Meanwhile Cameryn Edwards (FR/Silverhill, Ala.) placed 34th and Emily Hagan (FR/Zachary, La.) placed tied for 36th in the two-round tournament. Edwards shot a 195 (+51) and Hagan shot 200 (+56).
In the men's tournament, the no. 11 Rams placed third out of nine competing teams. Mobile recorded a team score of 609 (+33) and finished 13 strokes behind the tournament champions Southeastern University.
Last week's SSAC Men's Golfer of the Week J. Michael Riley (SR/Mobile, Ala.) placed sixth overall out of 51 total golfers with a score of 149 (+5). Riley shot just one over par in the first round and began round two tied for third.
Steven Johnson (JR/Panama City, Fla.) placed two spots behind Riley, tied for eighth with a score of 151 (+7). Freshman Cy Smith (FR/Lucedale, Miss.) recorded a score of 154 (+10) while finishing tied for 16th.
Ben Bryant (SO/Louisville, Kentucky) and Noah Martino (SR/Mobile, Ala.) did not play their best tournament of their successful collegiate careers as Bryant finished tied for 18th with a score of 155 (+11) and Martino placing tied for 29th with a score of 159 (+15).
The University of Mobile Golf teams have just one regular season tournament remaining on the 2020-21 schedule before the SSAC Conference Championship Tournaments. The Rams will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. on Mar. 29-30 for the Carey Collegiate Classic at the Canebrake Country Club.
