Box Score 4 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After a 4-0 start to the 2021 season last weekend in the Royals Classic Volleyball Tournament, the University of Mobile Volleyball team competed in four more matches in the Faulkner Invitational in Montgomery, Ala. on Aug. 27-28 and picked up four more wins, with three of those wins being straight-set sweeps over competition.
The Rams began the tournament with an afternoon match on Friday against Freed-Hardeman University and controlled the match in three sets, 25-13, 25-12, 25-17. Later that evening, Mobile faced Warner University for the second time on the young 2021 season. The Rams defeated Warner three sets to one last weekend in the Royals Classic on Warner's home court. On Friday, Mobile swept the Royals, 25-10, 25-23, 25-18, improving to 2-0 in the Faulkner Invitational and 6-0 on the season.
On Saturday, Mobile played two morning matches with the first match being against Southeastern University. Despite a close battle, the Fire of Southeastern could not cool off Mobile as the Rams came out and swept Southeastern in straight sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 to start the morning. Just an hour later, Mobile faced Tennessee Wesleyan University to wrap up their tournament schedule.
In the match against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan, Mobile won the match three sets to one, 25-6, 25-16, 20-25, 25-13, allowing Tennessee Wesleyan to hand Mobile their first set loss of the tournament in the third set. Despite the set loss, Mobile remained perfect in the Faulkner Invitational as their dominance in the tournament advances their overall season record to 8-0.
In the tournament, the reigning SSAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week, Abby Andrews, recorded a total of 38 kills throughout all four matches played. Sarah Warren recorded a total of 92 assists, giving her a shot as the conference's setter of the week award. Melea Meadows, who was awarded the SSAC Volleyball Defender of the Week, led the team with 68 total digs in the four matches, giving her a shot to repeat as defender of the week in the conference.
Mobile's next scheduled match will take place in New Orleans, La. against Dillard University on Sept. 7. That match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT.
