Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team is riding a five-match winning streak heading into Sunday, Sept. 19 and battled the Pilots of LSU-Shreveport on the road Sunday morning. Mobile entered Sunday ranked No. 8 in the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Top 25 Coaches' poll. Meanwhile, LSU-Shreveport is unranked with a 3-2 record entering Sunday. Despite LSU-S's record, the Pilots always seem to play the Rams tough in each match played over the last few seasons.
Mobile's Alejo Binaghi got the scoring started in the 30th minute of the match in Shreveport, recording his fourth goal of the year. Angel Almiron was credited with the assist on Binaghi's goal. Just 10 minutes later, the Pilots of LSU-S evened the match with a goal in the 40th minute and the match went to halftime with the score tied, 1-1.
In the second half, Mobile and LSU-S could not score despite 14 total shots between the two teams and the match went to overtime. In overtime, LSU-S managed just one shot. The Rams took three shots with the third shot going in for the match-winning goal. Alejo Binaghi delivered the game-winner for the Rams, his fifth goal of the season and making it the second time during the 2021 season where Binaghi has scored twice in a match. Senior defender Brantton Greene earned the assist on the go-ahead goal in overtime for Mobile.
Mobile out-shot the Pilots on Sunday, 18-15 in Sunday's win. Cards were an issue for LSU-S, as they were hit with six yellow cards and one late red card to play a man down in overtime. Mobile only saw three yellow cards on the day. Starting goalkeeper for Mobile, Antoine Bedos, recorded three saves in the 96 minutes played. Sunday's hard-fought win extends Mobile's winning streak to six matches and advances their overall record to 7-1-0 on the season.
Mobile will host Auburn University - Montgomery next on the schedule on Sunday, Sept. 26 in an exhibition match at 4:00 p.m. CT. The next regular season match for the Rams is scheduled for Sept. 30 in Dalton, Ga. against an always tough Dalton State College. That match will open up SSAC play and is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. CT.
