Box Score HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss. on Tuesday, Sept. 28 for a conference match against William Carey University and fell to the Crusaders in four sets, 15-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-25.. Mobile entered the match with just one loss on the 2021 season record before Tuesday's loss to William Carey. Mobile's overall record falls to 13-2 and 4-1 in conference play.
Consistent offense has been hard to come by as of late for the Rams as Mobile has failed to record a team hitting percentage above .200 in four-straight matches. On Tuesday night in Hattiesburg, the Rams hit just .133 on the night.
Rachel Hart led the way for Mobile with a .375 hitting percentage, recording eight kills in 16 attempts. The senior middle blocker committed just two attack errors across four sets played. Behind Hart, no other Ram with at least 10 attack attempts hit above .200. Carli Rouse led the team with 10 kills and freshman Kiara Garrett recorded nine. Mobile recorded 41 total assists in Tuesday's loss, with over half being recorded by Sarah Warren with 23 assists. Freshman Tatum Beech recorded 13, second on the team.
On the defensive side, Mobile struggled to defend William Carey's attacks. The Crusaders tallied 54 kills in the four-set match while hitting .239. Mobile recorded 57 defensive digs, led by outside hitter Abby Andrews and defender Madison Bergeron. Andrews led the Rams with 14 digs and Bergeron tallied 11. The reigning three-time SSAC Volleyball Defender of the Week Melea Meadows had a quieter night than usual, recording just eight digs.
Mobile will look to shake off their first conference loss of the year and turn their attention to the next match on the 2021 schedule against a talented Loyola University team on Saturday, Oct. 2. That match will be played in New Orleans, La. and scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. CT.
