TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team fell to the Tigers of Stillman College 65-62 Thursday evening, Jan. 27 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The loss is the second game in a row that Mobile has fallen in, marking the team's sixth loss overall. The Rams now have a 10-6 overall record on the season with a 4-4 conference record in the SSAC.
Despite trailing Stillman for the majority of the game, Mobile kept things close for the game's entirety with the Tigers while briefly taking the lead 50-49 with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation. After Mobile gained the lead, Stillman answered back with an 11-4 run in the final six minutes to make the score, 61-54. However, the Rams did not quit as Mobile surged in the final minute, scoring eight points to make it a one-point game at 63-62 with five seconds left. A couple of made free-throw attempts later, Stillman survived as time expired on the Rams.
Mobile managed to shoot 40% from the floor in the loss while making just three three-point attempts. Erica Jones led the way offensively with a game-high 17 points. Jones finished one rebound shy of a double-double and collected one steal and one block in Thursday's defeat.
Breannah McCullah had a nice game from off the bench for Mobile, scoring 12 points in 24 minutes of playing time. McCullah led all players with five steals, being responsible for over half of Mobile's nine steals in the game.
Overall, Stillman managed to out-rebound Mobile 41-32 on Thursday, but the Rams won the turnover battle 11-18. Thursday's meeting was the first of two regular-season meetings between Stillman and Mobile as the Rams will host the Tigers in Pharr Gymnasium on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. CT.
Mobile's next game on the schedule comes on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 12:00 p.m. CT with a home conference game against Blue Mountain College in Pharr Gymnasium.
