MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team returned to action at home on Tuesday, Oct. 11, hosting non-divisional opponent Pensacola Christian College for an evening matchup. Tuesday's matchup between No. 4 Mobile and Pensacola Christian marked just the fourth time all-time the two programs have met, with Mobile winning each of the first three meetings. On Tuesday, the Rams cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Eagles, improving the overall 2022 record to 10-1-1.
Match Recap
The fourth-ranked Rams got off to a quick start against Pensacola Christian, scoring the first goal of the match in the fourth minute. Freshman Jeb Scarbrough managed to score Mobile's first goal of the night, picking up right where he left off in Mobile's previous match against Middle Georgia State where he scored two late goals in the Rams' 7-1 win. Jose Sanabria earned the assist on Scarbrough's early goal.
Later in the first half, Sanabria picked up his second assist on the night and team-leading sixth on the season after connecting with Joshua Bynoe in the 23rd minute. Bynoe's goal in the 23rd minute put the Rams up 2-0 and was his fourth goal in his last two matches played. Bynoe earned a hat trick last Saturday against Middle Georgia State. He now has seven goals to his name on the year.
Five minutes later, Bynoe made contact with a Pensacola Christian defender inside the box, which resulted in a foul on the Eagles and a penalty kick for Mobile. During the contact, Bynoe went down with an injury and did not return. Sebastian Jorgge took the penalty kick and notched Mobile's third goal of the half. From there, the Rams went to halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Halfway through the second half, Jeb Scarbrough managed to score his second goal of the night, making it back-to-back matches where Scarbrough has recorded multiple goals in a match. Joseph McMahon earned the assist after a great pass within the box. With the Rams now up 4-0, Mobile Head Coach Daniel Whelan began emptying his bench and put in 10 reserves, leaving only starting goalkeeper Ty Turner as the only starter to play all 90 minutes.
Mobile went on to win Tuesday's match 4-0, earning their fifth shutout of the year, and did so in dominating fashion. The Rams out-shot the Eagles 32-2, with half of their shots being recorded on-goal. Ty Turner earned the win in the net, picking up one save in the meantime.
