Mobile Falls in Offensive Shootout on Saturday in Montgomery

Rams Drop Second-Straight with Loss to Faulkner Saturday Afternoon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Soccer team dropped their second-straight match on Saturday, Oct. 15 after winning their previous five matches. Mobile fell 1-0 to Middle Georgia State at home last Saturday, and followed that with a 5-3 loss to the Faulkner Eagles on Saturday afternoon this weekend in Montgomery. Mobile's overall record falls to 8-4-2, with their conference record moving to 4-2-0.

Faulkner managed to hit the scoreboard first in just the third minute of the match, but the Rams managed to tie the match in the 39th minute, right before the half. Raegan Latiolais notched her seventh goal of the season to tie the match at one goal a piece, with the score holding there at the break. Carolina Martins Gomes was credited with the assist.

In the second half, Mobile took the lead in the 55th minute following Sophie Roberts' team-leading 13th goal of the year. However, Faulkner managed to tie the match just four minutes later with a goal in the 59th minute. From there, both teams traded scores back and forth as Mobile regained the lead 58 seconds later following a goal from Carolina Martins Gomes. Emily Silbernagel earned the assist on Martins Gomes' goal.

With the score 3-2 in favor of Mobile with just over 20 minutes left in regulation, Faulkner managed an offensive run, scoring three unanswered goals in minutes 69', 71', and 77' and eventually defeated the Rams, 5-3. 

Both teams took 10 shots a piece in the match, with 16 shots being recorded on-goal for both squads. Juliana Gomez managed five saves for Mobile in the net, but allowed a season-high five goals in the full 90 minutes played. Gomez remains in the top five in save percentage in the conference.


Homecoming Up Next

The Rams will look to bounce back in one week with a tough match against a top-10 team in the NAIA, conference rival William Carey. Next week's match against the Crusaders is set for 5:30 p.m. CT at home for homecoming 2022.
