Rams Shut Out by Fifth-Ranked Crusaders

No. 5 William Carey Hangs Nine-Spot on Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. - It was a rough match on Saturday evening, Oct. 22 for the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team, falling 9-0 to conference rival William Carey, who currently ranks No. 5 in the latest NAIA Women's Soccer Top 25. The loss on Saturday for the Rams is the third-straight loss on the season, seeing the overall record fall to 8-5-2 and 4-3-0 in conference play. With the win over Mobile, William Carey clinched the SSAC Women's Soccer Regular Season Championship and will earn a first-round BYE of the upcoming conference tournament.

Match Recap

In front of a large crowd for UM's Homecoming weekend, Mobile stuck around with the Crusaders throughout the first 25 minutes of the match, allowing just one goal in the 13th minute. Later in the first half, the Crusaders managed to add on with two more goals, having a 3-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, William Carey's offense sparked and tallied three goals in the timespan of five minutes. The Crusaders only continued to add on in the second half and eventually scored six goals in the final 45 minutes to come away with the 9-0 victory. William Carey has managed to allow just one goal in their last four matches played.

The Rams took just three shots in the loss, all coming from senior Mia Mugford. One of Mugford's shots were on target as the Crusaders put up 19 shots on goal. They recorded 36 total throughout the 90 minutes played. 

Mobile goalkeeper Juliana Gomez played the full 90 minutes in the net for the Rams, and added several highlight-reel saves despite the losing effort. Gomez finished with 10 saves against the Crusaders.


One Regular Season Match

Ahead of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, Mobile will look to snap the current three-match losing skid in the regular season finale next Thursday, Oct. 27. Mobile will travel north to Blue Mountain, Miss. for a 1:00 p.m. CT match against the Toppers of Blue Mountain College.

Next Thursday's match is an important one for Mobile as the Rams are trying to earn either the third or fourth seed of the upcoming conference tournament in order to host a first-round match at home.
