MARIETTA, Ga. - In a match where it looked like Life University was destined to snap the current three-match win streak that the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team has been riding over the last couple of weeks, the Rams broke the hearts of the Running Eagles with two late goals with under five minutes left to earn their fourth-straight victory. With the impressive comeback win on Sunday, Oct. 2, Mobile improves the 2022 overall record to 7-2-2 and stays perfect in conference play at 3-0-0.
Exciting End Gives Mobile Seventh Win of Season
Life University, the newest member of the SSAC, controlled the majority of Sunday's match with Mobile, recording a whopping 27 shots in the full 90 minutes. However, the Running Eagles only managed to score one goal in their 27 attempts, with the go-ahead score coming in the 70th minute. Starting goalkeeper for the Rams, Juliana Gomez, collected eight saves in a winning effort following a late offensive surge by Mobile.
With five minutes left in the match, freshman Raegan Latiolais scored the equalizer to tie the match at one goal a piece. Carolina Martins Gomes earned the assist on the match-tying goal as Latiolais has now scored in four-straight matches to bring her total to six goals on the season.
In the final minute with under 10 seconds left, senior Mia Mugford managed to put in the go-ahead goal for Mobile to give the Rams the victory. Latiolais was in on the game-winning goal, earning the assist. From there, the celebration was on for the Rams as Mobile came away with the 2-1 comeback victory on the road against Life.
The Rams only took six shots in the win, five being on-goal and four coming in the second half. The final two shots of the match for Mobile were the difference makers as both resulted in goals.
