SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team, led by fifth-year head coach Erika Stuckman, opened the 2022-23 season on Friday night, Oct. 28 with a non-conference game on the road against LSU-Shreveport. Despite keeping the game relatively close, Mobile eventually fell to the Pilots 74-65, dropping their first season-opening game in three years. Following Friday's night game, Mobile still leads the all-time series against LSU-S with a 12-7 record in 19 meetings.

The Rams stayed with LSU-S for the majority of the game, but saw just one lead early in the first quarter. Eventually falling by nine points in enemy territory, Mobile shot better than LSU-S with 43 shots taken. The Rams finished the night shooting 54% from the floor, while LSU-S finished at 50% from the floor, making 25 of 50 shots. Mobile finished with 23 buckets on the night and made 16 of 24 free throw attempts. Additionally, Mobile went 3-for-6 from the three-point line.
Individually, Claire Worth led the Rams offensively with 13 points, making both three-point shots taken. Worth added four rebounds and three assists with her team-high 13 points. She returns to the court this season after missing most of the 2021-22 season due to injury.
MacKenzie White ended the night with 11 points in the loss, while Erica Jones and Mobile newcomer Fatoumata Sonko scored 10 points each. Jones finished two rebounds shy of a double-double in the defeat. As a team, Mobile came up with just two steals on the defensive end and turned the ball over on nine different occasions. Six of 22 rebounds were offensive boards.
Back to Work on Saturday
Mobile will stay over night in Shreveport, La. and play their second game of the 2022-23 season on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. CT. The Rams will face Philander Smith College for the first time in history on a neutral court in Shreveport.
