MOBILE, Ala. - In the first match played since dropping from the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA, the University of Mobile Men's Soccer team, now ranked fourth in the country, hosted Brewton-Parker College on Thursday, Oct. 6 and came away with a 4-0 shutout win. The win improves Mobile's overall record to 8-1-1 on the season, while moving the current conference record to 3-1-0.
Rams Ease to Shutout
In search of a monumental upset over the fourth-ranked Rams, the Barons of Brewton-Parker entered Thursday evening winless on the year and saw their season struggles continue against Mobile. The Rams quickly got on the scoreboard with a goal in just the fourth minute of the match following a header by Baptiste Gateau. Gateau's second goal of the season came following an early corner kick opportunity for Mobile that resulted in Sebastian Jorgge and Angel Almiron earning the double-assist. From there, Mobile held a 1-0 lead for the majority of the first half.
Right before the halftime whistle, the Rams added an insurance goal in the 45th minute. Jose Sanabria notched his third goal of the year with a strike with just eight seconds remaining in the half as Samuel Mutiri earned his first assist of the season in his third match played. Mobile went to halftime up two goals over the Barons.
In the second half, Jose Sanabria connected with Angel Almiron to score Mobile's third goal of the match in the 59th minute. The beautiful cross by Sanabria earned him his fourth assist of the year, while Almiron's header goal is just his second score of the year. Following the goal, Mobile Head Coach Daniel Whelan began emptying his bench and pulled most of his starters from the match.
Making the most of playing time late in the second half, Mobile added another insurance goal just three minutes later in the 62nd minute. After a loose ball ricocheted off several players, Zacharia Hasler saw a gap in the Barons' back line and came away with his second goal of the season. The Rams' 4-0 lead held there as Mobile shut out the Barons in a dominating effort.
Mobile Dominates Box Score
In the 4-0 victory for the Rams, Mobile controlled the ball and took 31 total shots, with 12 being recorded on-goal. Meanwhile, Brewton-Parker only managed to threaten Mobile a couple of times across the full 90 minutes, finishing with only three shots, two being shots-on-goal.
Starting goalkeeper for Mobile, Ty Turner, collected two saves in the shutout win as he played the full 90 minutes.
