MARIETTA, Ga. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team saw their 2022-23 record drop to 2-5 on the season following a 69-60 loss to Life University on Thursday, Nov. 18. Thursday's game against the Running Eagles of Life was the first SSAC contest of the season for both teams as Life managed to outscore Mobile in three of the four quarters played.
Strong Start Not Enough
In the first quarter, Mobile started strong, tallying 19 points in the first 10 minutes. Life stuck around Mobile, however, scoring 18 points of their own in the first quarter. Both teams only improved in the second quarter as Life managed to outscore Mobile, 22-21. At halftime, the game was tied at 40 points a piece.
In the second half, it was the Running Eagles that put together a stronger third quarter, taking a three-point lead to the final quarter of the game. In the final 10 minutes, the Mobile defense allowed 16 Life points and saw the Running Eagles come away with a nine-point victory. Mobile only managed to score 20 points in the second half, 10 points in each quarter. The Rams doubled their second half total in the first half on Thursday.
Erica Jones was solid from off the bench for Mobile, leading all players with 21 points. Her 21 points against Life matches a season-high and brings her season average to over 14 points per game. Jones went 9-for-14 from the floor.
Behind Jones was Rachel Leclerc, who notched 10 points from off the bench. Leclerc added three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the loss. Mobile's starting five was out-shot by Jones and Leclerc alone, as the starting lineup only came away with 26 of the Rams' 60 total points.
As a team, Mobile shot 44% from the floor and committed 15 turnovers. The Rams improved their free throw percentage on the season, making seven of 10 attempts.
Crosstown Rivals Meet Again
Following the loss to Life, Mobile traveled home to Mobile, Ala. and will return to non-conference action with a non-divisional game against crosstown rival Spring Hill College on Saturday, Nov. 19. Saturday's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT and will be played at Spring Hill's gymnasium.
