Struggles Continue for UM Women's Basketball as Mobile Falls to Crosstown Rival Spring Hill on Saturday

Mobile Drops Close Game with Rival Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team traveled seven miles from their home court on Saturday, Nov. 19 for a crosstown matchup with rival Spring Hill College. The winless Badgers managed to knock off the Rams 66-65 on Saturday, handing Mobile their third-straight defeat and fourth loss in the last five regular season games played. Mobile's overall record drops to 2-6 on the season.

Badgers Win by One

In a close game between Mobile and Spring Hill, offense shined through the first quarter for both teams as the Rams and Badgers combined for 48 points in the first 10 minutes. Spring Hill had the edge at the end of the first quarter as Mobile trailed by two, 25-23. In the second quarter, Mobile cut the deficit to just one, with the Badgers taking a 37-36 lead to halftime. 

In the second half, both teams scored 16 points each in the third quarter, giving Spring Hill a one-point advantage heading into the final quarter of the game. In the fourth quarter, both teams traded the lead back and forth early, but the Badgers managed to keep their one-point lead in tow and defeated Mobile, 66-65. 

Despite the scoring totals in each quarter looking very similar, Mobile shot better than Spring Hill with a 42% shooting line from the floor. The Badgers only tallied a 33% shooting mark, with 28 of their 66 points coming from Lamunique Bowie. Bowie made five of six three-point field goals for the Badgers and collected 11 rebounds.

For Mobile, Mary Denman Luker led the way with 18 points. Denman Luker went 8-for-15 from the floor and made two three-point shots. As a team, Mobile only tallied three threes in the game. Erica Jones finished second on the team with 13 points, recording seven rebounds, while Alesha Temple ended the afternoon with eight points and nine rebounds.

Another Road Non-Conference Game on Monday

Mobile continues their road journey on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as the Rams head west to Louisiana for the third time in the last two weeks and fourth time total on the 2022-23 season. So far, the Rams are 0-4 in games played in Louisiana, but will look to snap the losing skid with a win against Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans at 5:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
