NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Xavier University of Louisiana on Nov. 22 in New Orleans, La. during the Thanksgiving break. The loss came in heartbreaking fashion for Mobile as the Rams led for the first three quarters. However, Xavier (La.) managed a fourth quarter rally to hand Mobile their fourth loss in a row during the 2022-23 season, dropping the Rams' overall record to 2-7 on the season.

Attempting to break a losing skid, Mobile came out strong against a talented Xavier team who has lost just one game this year. Mobile scored 19 points in the first quarter alone, while adding 14 points in the second quarter for a total of 33 in the first half. In the first quarter alone, the Rams made just four of 12 shots, but put up great numbers at the free throw line, going 10-for-12 at the line. Meanwhile, the Mobile defense held the Gold Nuggets to 28 points in the half.
Following halftime, the Rams outscored Xavier 16-14 in the third quarter, taking a seven point lead into the final quarter of the game. In the fourth quarter, Xavier managed to play their best 10 minutes of the game, scoring 21 points, while holding the Rams to just 12. The big fourth quarter comeback for the Gold Nuggets gave Xavier the victory, 63-61.
Sophomore Carlee Wyatt got the start against Xavier and played the full 40 minutes. Wyatt led the team with a season-high 16 points, making four three-point shots in the loss. Alesha Temple finished with a double-double, notching 11 points and a team-high 12 rebounds, while both Cosette Balmy and Rachel Leclerc finished two points shy of a double-double of their own. Balmy and Leclerc tallied eight points each, while Balmy grabbed 11 boards and Leclerc finished with 10.
As a team, Mobile shot 31% from the floor and committed 16 turnovers. The Rams finished 14-for-26 at the free throw line.

Mobile will return to action and look to snap the current four-game losing streak on the road against Talladega College on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 5:30 p.m. CT. Tuesday's game is a conference game between the Rams and Tornadoes and is the first of two meetings between the two teams during the regular season.
