SSAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Award Winners Announced; Fedra Florentin Named Women's Field Freshman of the Year

Nine Rams Earn All-Conference Selections as Florentin Takes Freshman of the Year Honor

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Southern States Athletic Conference released the 2022 SSAC Women's Indoor Track and Field award winners on Tuesday, Feb. 15 as nine members of the University of Mobile Women's Indoor Track and Field program were selected to all-conference teams this year. In addition, Fedra Florentin was named the SSAC Women's Indoor Field Freshman of the Year. To be selected to a indoor track and field all-conference team, student-athletes must make the podium at the conference championship.

For Florentin, she managed to qualify for the women's shot put event at the 2022 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship in her first meet as a Ram during the 2022 season. Florentin broke the school record in the women's shot put in the same meet. Since then, Florentin has earned several top-three finishes across the season including placing second at the conference championship in the women's shot put event, earning her a spot on the SSAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Second-Team All-Conference team.

Mobile saw two Rams on the women's team place first overall in events at the conference championship in Birmingham, Ala. last week, earning them spots on the conference's first-team all-conference team. Rayvion Williams took first in the women's 600 meters event with a time of 1:46.38. Joining Williams as a 2022 SSAC Champion was Elyssa Paulding, earning first in the women's weight throw event with a mark of 13.36 meters.

Seven Mobile student-athletes placed second across six events at the conference championship and two placed third in four events. Those all-conference selections with their event are listed below.

SSAC Second-Team All-Conference Selections:
- Lillie Hawthorne-Abrams - 600 Meters
- Olivia Fulford - 800 Meters
- Kya Gardner - 4x400 Meters
- Rayvion Williams - 4x400 Meters
- Lillie Hawthorne-Abrams - 4x400 Meters
- Shawnessy Edwards - 4x400 Meters
- Olivia Fulford - 4x800 Meters
- Lillie Hawthorne-Abrams - 4x800 Meters
- Rayvion Williams - 4x800 Meters
- Kya Gardner - 4x800 Meters
- Anna Cabrera - Long Jump
- Fedra Florentin - Shot Put

SSAC Third-Team All-Conference Selections:
- Latavia Jack - 60 Meters
- Latavia Jack - 200 Meters
- Anna Cabrera - 60 Meter Hurdles
- Anna Cabrera - High Jump

In addition, the following student-athletes from the University of Mobile Indoor Track and Field program excelled in the classroom and were selected to the SSAC Women's Indoor Track and Field All-Academic team.

Finally, Shawnessy Edwards was selected as Mobile's representative on the SSAC Champions of Character team for showing the best sportsmanship throughout the 2022 season.
