MOBILE, Ala. - After suffering the worst loss of the 2021-22 season to Loyola University of New Orleans back on Jan. 15, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team avenged their 113-69 loss to the Wolf Pack on Thursday evening, Feb. 3 with a 60-53 victory.
Mobile controlled the game offensively, only allowing Loyola one small lead in the first half and kept a slight cushion on the scoreboard as the Rams' defense stepped up. Mobile forced Loyola to shoot just 36% from the floor while managing to force 13 turnovers in the game, recording 11 steals as a team. Both MacKenzie White and Kelsey Pinera tallied three steals each for the Rams.
The Rams shot 42% from the court as Erica Jones tallied 23 points to her name Thursday evening. Jones played all but two minutes in the game and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Jones' 23 points and nine made field goals are season-highs for the second-year freshman.
Kelsey Pinera was the only other Ram to finish with double-digit point totals, recording 11 points in the win to go with her three steals. Pinera made four shots for a season-high and added two assists to her name while playing 27 minutes from off the bench.
Both Sidney Sims and Breannah McCullah played great down the stretch as both finished with eight points each. McCullah grabbed five rebounds and three assists while Sims finished with four assists and one steal.
Mobile's win over Loyola makes things interesting near the top of the current SSAC Women's Basketball standings as the Rams sit third just 1.5 games back from Loyola who currently sits first. The Tornadoes of Talladega College are placed between both Mobile and Loyola in second place, just a half a game up on the Rams. All SSAC teams have at least five games remaining on the regular season.
Mobile's next game comes on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 5 with a noon game against conference rival William Carey University in Pharr Gymnasium.
