MOBILE, Ala. - After a successful 2-0 weekend in the Sun Conference Northeast Pod Tournament at home last weekend, the University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team improved to 11-4 on the year with a Wednesday evening home victory over Huntingdon College on Mar. 16.
In the Sun Conference Northeast Pod Tournament last weekend, Mobile managed a 4-1 win over St. Andrews University the begin the current three-game win streak the Rams are riding, and followed that with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Truett McConnell University the next day. On Wednesday, Mobile defeated Huntingdon 3-2 for the Rams' third win of the season over the Hawks and third win in a row on the 2022 season.
Mobile's three points against Huntingdon Wednesday evening came from the No. 2, 4, and 5 seeds. Layton Adams and Aspen Adams dominated from the second slot in the starting lineup for the Rams, defeating their opponents, 21-11, 21-11. The Adams sisters improve to 12-3 as a pair this year for Mobile.
Additionally, the fourth-seeded pair of Madison Bergeron and Jordan Wood and Mobile's five-seed of Melea Meadows and Veronica Makovey swept the opposition in their matches played on Wednesday, with Bergeron and Wood winning 21-19, 21-16 and Meadows and Makovey earning a 21-13, 21-12 match victory. Melea Meadows and Veronica Makovey join Layton Adams and Aspen Adams with a 12-3 record this season as a pair, proving to be two of the team's most reliable duos for Mobile Head Coach Jon Campbell.
Mobile's one-seed of Abby Andrews and Brinkley Hearn, as well a the three-seed of Haley Jones and Danielle Pote, fell 2-1 in three sets played to the Hawks on Wednesday. Haley Jones made her first start in the lineup this season for the Rams against Huntingdon this week.
The Rams currently sit just outside the NAIA Beach Volleyball Top 10 Coaches' poll with an 11-4 overall record and are receiving votes for entry in the top 10. Mobile sits fourth out of 10 teams in the Sun Conference Beach Volleyball standings with a 4-1 record and will return to conference play this weekend with two matches in Hattiesburg, Miss. against William Carey University. This weekend's two matches are both scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 19 for 11:00 a.m CT and 1:00 p.m. CT.
