Beach Volleyball Earns Runner-Up Finish at AVCA Tournament

Rams Fall to Webber International in Championship Match

GULF SHORES BEACH, Ala. - The University of Mobile Beach Volleyball team competed in the AVCA Small College Beach Tournament over the weekend with the Rams earning a runners-up finish after losing out to Webber International in the championship match. The team went 3-1 over the two day tournament with wins coming against Texas A&M-Texarkana, Wayland Baptist University (Texas), and Truett McConnell University.

Tournament Recap

The Tournament got started for the Rams on Thursday morning with a meeting against Texas A&M-Texarkana where they picked up a 3-1 win to begin pool play. Following that win, Mobile faced off against Wayland Baptist University in the second and final match of pool play. The team would end the day with a 3-1 win to finish out pool play with a 2-0 record. With the No. 1 seed in their pool secured, the Rams awaited word on who their opponent would be on Friday morning. Mobile would find out, after an early morning match, that they would face off against SUN conference opponents Truett McConnell in the semifinals. Much like their match up earlier in the season, the Rams would walk away from the match as winners having won 3-0 and setting up a meeting with Webber International in the Championship match for the second weekend in a row.

After losing to Webber less than a week prior in the SUN Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament Final, the Rams were set to face them once again, this time in the AVCA Tournament Final. Mobile would take a win in the five seed with Jaci Drinnon and Rachel Dunaway taking victory in just two sets. The Rams however could not keep that momentum up as they would lose at the 3 and 4 seeds before the 2 seed would fall, securing the win and the title for Webber. The 1 seed of Layton Adams and Aspen Adams were left unable to finish their third set with the match already lost for the Rams. The 3-1 loss in the final secured a second runners-up finish for the Mobile Beach Volleyball team this season.

Up Next for the Rams

The Mobile Beach Volleyball Team is traveling to Greeneville, Tennessee where they will begin play in the 2025 NAIA Women's Beach Volleyball Invitational on the morning of Thursday, April 24th with a match against Corban University (Oregon).
